Medical Experts Gather at Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health for Annual Silverado Medical Director Conference
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) November 18, 2013 -- A meeting of medical minds gathered at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center Brain Health during the annual Silverado Medical Director Conference held in Las Vegas November 7 through 9. The one-of-a-kind event featured insight into several diseases facing an aging population, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Brain injury from concussions and neurodegenerative disorders.
Silverado President and CEO Loren Shook opened the three-day event with an update for the more than 50 attendees – Silverado physician and clinical leaders – on the company’s growth, as well as its overall progress in the industry. The medical directors, each supporting a Silverado memory care community or hospice, presented topics that included:
• Dr. Jeffrey Cummings presented Advances in Alzheimer's Disease, an update on treatments currently under development, how genetics are being used to identify treatment in trial participants, and recent advances in biomarkers for tracking disease progression.
• Advances in Diagnoses and Treatment of Parkinson’s, led by Dr. Stanley Fisher, which featured a discussion on new diagnostic criteria as well as current and future therapeutic strategies for treatment of early and advanced disease.
• Current Concepts in the Treatment, Rehabilitation & Community Re-entry of People with Brain Injury, a discussion led by Dr. Ricardo Senno about the pathophysiology, complications and treatment strategies for people suffering from traumatic brain injuries.
• Current Hospice Issues, led by Dr. Loren Novak, provided the group with the latest information about the treatment of refractory pain and nausea and most importantly, "when to have the hospice discussion with your patient and their family."
With collaboration a key to Silverado’s success, several breakout sessions enabled the experts to engage in one-on-one, frank conversation that inspired problem-solving and best-practice sharing that will ultimately benefit the healthcare industry as a whole.
