Medisend International Celebrates 25 Years of Improving Community Health Worldwide
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) January 28, 2015 -- Since its founding in 1990 by renowned neurosurgeon Martin Lazar, MediSend International has grown from a small charity delivering surplus medical supplies to developing country hospitals to an organization that has profound impact on the healthcare of communities around the world.
In 2005, thanks to the Dahan Family Foundation, MediSend opened its new home in the Elisabeth Dahan Humanitarian Center in Dallas, Texas. In the following year, the organization launched the MediSend Biomedical Equipment Technology School™ and began coupling the delivery of medical supplies and equipment with professional education and training of biomedical technicians in developing countries, quickly establishing sustainable improvement in community healthcare. Since 2007, MediSend has trained and equipped over 110 professional biomedical technicians (BMETs) for more than 20 countries worldwide, some the first such professionals in their communities.
MediSend has impacted the lives of millions of families around the world, and now impacts the lives of returning US veterans and their families. In 2013, MediSend’s Biomedical Technology School was completely renovated with new state of the art laboratories and classrooms, and in that same year the General Richard B. Myers Veterans Biomedical Technology Program™ was launched to offer training to US. veterans. The Veterans Program has achieved a nearly 100% success rate in placing graduates in careers with highly recognized healthcare organizations such as Baylor Scott & White Health, DaVita Dialysis, Aramark Healthcare and Becton Dickinson.
As one of the first NGO’s on the ground following the earthquake in Haiti and, more recently providing major support of the Ebola crisis in West Africa, MediSend continues its original purpose and responds with emergency medical supplies to communities in distress.
“We are sincerely grateful to our partners and donors for making our contribution to healthcare possible. They enable MediSend to send hope, save lives, and to change lifetimes. We have never lost sight of our mission to improve community health and, with their continued support and loyalty, we look forward to more innovations and progress,” said Nick Hallack, President and CEO of MediSend and the organization’s leader since 2004.
