MedLion CEO to Speak at Family Medicine Events Nationwide
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) July 17, 2014 -- MedLion Direct Primary Care’s Founder and CEO, Dr. Samir Qamar, will be speaking at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) 2014 National Assembly Conference in late October, in Washington, D.C. Touted as the largest annual conference for the AAFP, the conference typically hosts thousands of family physicians yearly. This year, the AAFP National Assembly will offer both Continuing Medical Education (CME) and non-CME lectures focused on Direct Primary Care. Dr. Qamar will be speaking on multiple Direct Primary Care topics, and will be joined by other industry physicians as well.
AAFP’s first Direct Primary Care Learning Workshop, scheduled for early November, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona, will also feature Dr. Qamar as the key speaker on Direct Primary Care. Area physicians will have an opportunity to ask questions about the rapidly-growing practice model that has gained the open support of the AAFP.
In early August, 2014, Dr. Qamar will speak on Direct Primary Care at Las Vegas, Nevada’s Golden Nugget Hotel at the Nevada Academy of Family Physicians’ 25th Annual Summer Meeting. Dr. Qamar will be joined by other Nevada MedLion affiliates, including Dr. Herve Bezard of Boulder City Family Medicine, and Dr. Mike Gorman of DPC of Southern Nevada.
“Family medicine is the perfect specialty for Direct Primary Care,” remarks Dr. Qamar. “Family doctors are already trained in preventive medicine, acute care, and chronic disease management for patients of all ages. A seismic shift is about to occur in family medicine’s favor, and I’m proud to say Direct Primary Care will play a big part.”
Direct Primary Care is a healthcare model that makes primary care affordable by having patients and employers contract with physicians directly. Consumers benefit from enhanced access, telemedicine, and lower cost, while doctors benefit from insurance-free practice, decreased paperwork, and manageable patient loads. Insurance use is minimized to catastrophic coverage, allowing for greater healthcare coverage at lower costs. Direct Primary Care, or DPC, has been included in the federal Affordable Care Act, and several state laws.
MedLion, one of the original Direct Primary Care pioneers, operates the fastest-growing DPC company nationwide, now with operations in 16 states. MedLion aims to have a presence in all 50 states by sometime in 2016, and is already in talks with firms outside the U.S. Founded in 2009, the healthcare start-up is still self-funded with plans to possibly accept investments downstream.
Dr. Qamar is no stranger to innovation. In addition to building and financing MedLion from infancy, he is also Chairman of DPC United, Direct Primary Care’s first medical association. As President of another start-up, MedWand Solutions, Dr. Qamar invented the MedWand, a groundbreaking, handheld telemedicine device that allows patients to be examined remotely over secure Internet lines.
