MedWand Solutions, Inc. Debuts Groundbreaking Telemedicine Exam Device on Indiegogo
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) April 20, 2015 -- Nevada-based tech startup MedWand Solutions, Inc. today launched its highly-anticipated MedWand telemedicine examination device on crowdfunding site Indiegogo.com.
The concept is simple – to allow secure, real-time, medical examinations with patients located remotely using a compact, affordable device. Combined with any computer or tablet, the MedWand creates an online clinic with examination capability anywhere.
“As a physician, I find it challenging to treat a patient without the ability to do a basic exam or get vitals,” says MedWand inventor and company President, Dr. Samir Qamar, also founder of the nation’s largest Direct Primary Care group, MedLion. “Up to now, telemedicine technology has been overly focused on video consultations. Adding an examination component to a telemedicine visit dramatically improves the quality and safety of care delivered. MedWand advances the entire telemedicine movement, which is already a multi-billion dollar industry.”
The portable MedWand, located on the patient’s end, allows providers to perform or monitor the following functions from a remote location:
• EKG
• Listen to heart, lungs, and abdomen
• Real-time visualization of inner ear, eyes, nose, throat, skin
• Heart rate
• Temperature
• Blood oxygen saturation
• Blood pressure and blood sugar via Bluetooth
Robert Rose, MedWand’s CEO and Managing Director at Cypher Scientific, has assembled a team of visionary engineers to bring MedWand to the market. With past or present roles at Masimo, Panasonic, RED Digital Cinema, Maxim Integrated, and Sanmina, the technical team has united to produce a medical-grade, yet consumer-friendly device that is going to improve access to healthcare on several levels.
“When Dr. Qamar came to me with his vision, I immediately knew we had changed healthcare,” says Robert Rose. “With MedWand, a medical provider can virtually ‘enter’ a home, an office, a remote village, a ship, or even a plane-in-flight to perform a basic medical exam, thousands of miles away. The possibilities are endless. We’re also working on a version for pets, called VetWand!”
“MedWand’s potential to change telemedicine through its technology is immense,” says Shailendra Mahajan, Managing Director of Industrial and Medical Solution Groups at Silicon Valley-based Maxim Integrated. “We are pleased to provide ongoing support to MedWand, and look forward to exploring more opportunities with them.”
MedWand’s crowdfunding campaign will allow pre-orders for prototypes and limited editions, including a ruggedized version that can be used with satellite links in extremely remote locations. The company has already secured orders from ordinary consumers, medical groups, and large telemedicine companies alike.
“It’s wonderful to have crowdfunding support from patrons who will help us provide medical care in new, meaningful ways via innovative technology,” remarks Dr. Qamar. “Somewhere down the road, a life will be saved by a MedWand – and we’ll have our Indiegogo contributors to thank for it. Together, we can improve healthcare for mankind.”
