Memory Care residents auction off paintings to benefit Alzheimer’s Association’s Memories In The Making® program.
(PRWEB) January 15, 2015 -- The Alzheimer’s Association’s Memories in the Making® program helps residents that are challenged by dementia to express themselves through watercolor painting. The paintings offer a poetic look at the thoughts and feelings of people who are advanced in the disease process; they tell us, as nothing else can, about faded memories, random thoughts and sparks of joy as vital and unique as the people who created them.
One treasured artist is 96 year-old Lillian who lives at U.S. Memory Care in Colleyville, Texas. Lillian was born and raised in a small East Texas town, Elysian Fields. After World War II her husband and two daughters moved to Albuquerque, N.M. Lillian taught 2nd and 4th grade in Albuquerque for 30 years. She always enjoyed art and made it a part of a special time in her classroom. She is now 96 years old and loves talking about being a teacher.
In Lillian’s painting A Clock, she laughs as she says, “It’s just tick-tock, tick-tock.”
Lillian’s painting is on display, along with many other artists, at the Fort Worth Community Arts Building for the month of January. The paintings are being auctioned off with all proceeds benefitting the Memories in the Making® program. For more information, or to bid on a painting, please visit:
