Menlo College’s Intensive English Program Receives Accreditation
Atherton, CA (PRWEB) January 28, 2014 -- The Menlo College Intensive English Program (IEP) has recently been sanctioned by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in its “in good standing” accreditation of Menlo College. The IEP is now recognized as being wholly managed and run by Menlo College staff and faculty with all classes being held on the Menlo College campus. It is an immersive English learning experience for students who need English language training before pursuing a degree in business or psychology.
As of 2014, the IEP is open to both students who are seeking a degree at Menlo College and those who are non-degree seeking students. Intermediate and upper-intermediate English language learners can spend one to two semesters developing their English language skills while participating in college life.
Class sizes are small. Students live on campus and take five distinct English courses in written communication, oral communication, reading, grammar, and academic writing for 21 hours of class time a week. In addition, as part of the program, students have the benefit of on-campus tutoring, use of the College’s writing center, and access to other activities. Currently, over 30 countries are represented among the College’s students.
To enhance and facilitate the international student’s college experience, in addition to support staff in Student Affairs and Residential Life, the College has two full-time staff members devoted to International Student Services. Virginia Spinelli is the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) and the International Student Advisor. Erik Bakke who runs the IEP and is the Director of International Student Experience said, “The Menlo College Intensive English Program makes it possible for international students to gain the level of English they need to engage fully in their academic, professional and social experiences.”
