Mental Health Advocate and Attorney Jeffrey Rabin Elected Secretary of NAMI-DuPage
Des Plaines, IL (PRWEB) April 30, 2015 -- Jeffrey Rabin, of The Law Offices of Rabin, Kodner & Brown, was recently elected as secretary of the board of directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of DuPage County. NAMI-DuPage is the largest affiliate in Illinois with a long history of providing services to people coping with mental illness.
“The mission of NAMI is to provide support, advocacy and education in order to improve the quality of life of individuals with mental illness, as well as their families,” said Rabin. “As secretary, I feel privileged to do whatever I can to support those suffering from mental illness, to ensure they are treated fairly and receive the rights they are due.”
NAMI-DuPage is currently embarking on a unique partnership with the DuPage County Mental Health Department (DCMHD). As part of its expansion into new facilities, the DCMHD is partnering with and providing space to NAMI-DuPage to allow it to expand its programming, which will allow NAMI to create new housing, employment and social programming for persons dealing with mental illness. Additionally, NAMI will be creating a “Living Room,” which is a peer-led program aimed at preventing unnecessary emergency room visits for those dealing with mild to moderate mental health issues.
“As a board member, I am working to help raise the funds needed to create this new programming,” said Rabin. “We are also reaching out to the community for fundraising to support these programs and the staffing required.”
NAMI is also inviting the community to its annual dinner gala, “A Starry Night,” which will be held on Saturday, May 9, at 5:30 p.m. at the Marriott Naperville, 1801 N. Naper Blvd., Naperville, IL. Tickets are $125 each, or $1,250 for a table of ten. There will be a silent auction, live auction, dinner raffle, entertainment and dancing.
