Mercy College Board Appoints Dr. Concetta M. Stewart as Interim President
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (PRWEB) July 01, 2013 -- The Mercy College Board of Trustees appointed Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Concetta M. Stewart, as Interim President of Mercy College effective July 1, 2013. Dr. Stewart will serve as Interim President while a comprehensive national search is conducted. The appointment of Dr. Stewart ensures that the College will continue to focus on key priorities and objectives during the transition period.
Dr. Stewart says, “I’m excited to take on this role and to work with Mercy College’s excellent faculty and staff. I plan to focus my energy on enhancing the experience for Mercy’s students and continue to improve the quality of education and programs we offer here at the College.”
With more than 20 years as an academic leader in higher education, Dr. Stewart came to Mercy College in 2012 after serving as dean and professor of the School of Art and Design at Pratt Institute. During her time at Pratt, Stewart significantly increased the academic offerings by launching new degrees, programs and departments, including film and photography. Prior to her position at Pratt, Dr. Stewart served as dean of the School of Communications and Theater at Temple University. Some of Stewart’s most significant accomplishments during her deanship at Temple include doubling enrollment, creating an effective Board of Visitors, leading cutting-edge technology initiatives, establishing a culture of fundraising and raising more than $12 million over eight years.
Dr. Stewart serves as a trustee of The American College of Greece as well as the boards of the American Council of Education’s Inclusive Excellence Group and the Advertising Educational Foundation. She has published widely on subjects relating to communications, education and technology including her edited volume titled "Teaching and Learning with Technology: Beyond Constructivism." She holds a Ph.D. in Communication & Information Studies from Rutgers University and an M.A. in Media Studies from The New School. She completed her B.A. in European History at Rutgers University.
