Meridian Cable Upgrades its Custom Cable Design and Manufacturing Capabilities
St. Augustine, FL (PRWEB) August 03, 2016 -- Meridian Cable (http://meridiancableassemblies.com/), which has been investing in upgrading its cable design and manufacturing capabilities, was recently approached by a company designing a new product for customers in the videography market. While the request seemed simple at first, the coil cord requested did not exist, but the company knew that Meridian Cable would be able to manufacture the product. A complication of the issue was, however, that the product required an HDMI cable and a Sony® Multi cable in one coil cord - and it wasn’t just any coil cord. It needed to extend 15 feet and fit around a pole with an OD of 1 11/16". All this needed to be in a fully functional prototype in two weeks.
“The customer needed a coil cord that didn’t exist, and they needed it in two weeks. That meant within two weeks, Meridian needed to conceptualize, design and manufacture a product from scratch!” says Meridian Cable president Bud Kinzalow,
Did the company accomplish this seemingly impossible feat?
“Meridian did, and the customer was very pleased,” Kinzalow acknowledges. “Meridian has been working on a quick turnaround design/manufacturing capability for complex, custom coil cords at our Florida factory. This new capability allows us to make a coil cord from almost any wire/cable configuration. Using this capability, Meridian can design and produce truly custom coil cords very quickly. By working with our customer’s engineers, we are able to create products that meet the technical requirements, and we are able to do this rapidly. We can also make quantities from 1 to 10 pieces with ease.”
Kinzalow notes that Meridian’s engineering team in Florida works closely with their engineers in China during the process. “Once we’ve made the prototypes, if necessary, we can transfer volume production to our wholly owned China facility. This allows us to meet our customer’s quick turnaround needs and also provides the benefit of producing volume production in a lower cost location.”
