MES Contributes to Casco Bay High School Through the Junior Achievement “Be Entrepreneurial” Program with the Portland Pirates
Portland, ME (PRWEB) January 24, 2014 -- Maine Education Services (MES) is proud to have supported the Casco Bay High School through the “Be Entrepreneurial” Program with Junior Achievement of Maine and the Portland Pirates.
Casco Bay High School students participating in this intensive program spent two days learning about ticket sales from local business leaders, followed by an intensive classroom period in which they built presentations with help from the Pirates staff. The students then visited local businesses and pitched ticket products to business leaders in the community, with a portion of all tickets sold directly benefitting Casco Bay High School.
2014 marks the ninth year of the program and the fourth time that MES has participated. Through the “Be Entrepreneurial” program, MES contributed at the Honor Roll level plus also made an additional cash donation directly to Casco Bay High School.
In total, the “Be Entrepreneurial” program has raised over $30,000 for Casco Bay High School. These funds have been used on technology upgrades, library books, and other projects. This year the students sold 585 tickets for the Junior Achievement Game, which will be held on February 1st against the Binghamton Senators. The current ticket sales number equates to $2,160 raised for Casco Bay High School. The funds raised by the students' in 2014 will be used to support building renovations as the school undergoes a 3-year expansion from 280 students last year to about 400 students in 2015-2016.
“Our students have worked extremely hard in their Pirates intensive and this year’s total is a result of their hard work. We want to thank the Pirates and Junior Achievement of Maine for their help in organizing the program,” said Casco Bay High School Principal Derek Pierce. “We are also deeply grateful to MES for taking the time to meet with our students, provide feedback on their presentations, and of course for their generous donation to our school. In addition, it was helpful, for both myself and the students, to learn more the college planning and career exploration services and resources that MES offers to Maine students.”
