Miami Positioned for Continued Commercial Growth, Experts say at RCA MIAMI Super Conference
Miami, FL (PRWEB) October 20, 2015 -- Miami has evolved into one of the world’s top places for commercial real estate investment, and the area’s population boom, tourist growth, and infrastructure improvements should only lead to more expansion, a prestigious panel of speakers said at the 15th annual Commercial Super Conference hosted by the Realtors Commercial Alliance of the MIAMI Association of REALTORS® (RCA MIAMI).
The “Growth of a Global City: Miami 2015-2030” Super Conference featured 21 speakers on Oct. 2. More than 150 RCA MIAMI members packed the historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables to listen to six engaging panels: Miami’s global investment, its 24-hour city status, sea level rise, Downtown Miami’s renaissance, emerging neighborhoods, and the changing face of retail.
“The 15th annual RCA MIAMI Super Conference emphasized just how well Miami is positioned for continued commercial real estate growth,” said Barbara Tria, the 2015 MIAMI Association of REALTORS® (MIAMI) Commercial President and a Broker-Associate at Kerdyk Real Estate in Coral Gables. “South Florida is spending billions of dollars to improve its highways, roads, and ports. The expenditures will ensure Miami continues attracting private banking, hedge funds, private equity firms, crowdfunding, venture capital, startups, and other commercial ventures.”
Population, Entrepreneurial Growth Driving Commercial Activity
Miami-Dade County’s continued population and tourism growth is fueling much of the region’s retail and commercial growth, multiple Super Conference speakers said. Miami-Dade ranks among the five-fastest growing regions in the state, according to recent U.S. Census figures. From 2013 to 2014, Miami-Dade added 21,008 new residents and now has a population of 2.68 million.
“In the next 15 years, we’re going to hit 3 million people living here,” said Jack Osterholt, Miami-Dade County's deputy mayor who delivered the Super Conference keynote address. “People come here because we are a center for technology and industry… So we’re very excited for the next 15 years. We’re on the verge of all kinds of growth and change.”
A global business hub, Miami is perennially adding entrepreneurs in various fields. Earlier this year, the Kauffman Foundation ranked Miami as the second-best large metro in the nation for startup activity. South Florida creates 520 new entrepreneurs each month. Only Austin, Texas (550 new entrepreneurs monthly) created more.
“We always seem to rebound better in Miami,” said Mindy McIlroy, the executive vice president for Terranova Corp. said at the conference. “Even in a down economy, the attraction to Southeast Florida doesn’t reduce. Tourists will still come here. Miami is still a gateway city to Latin America. Because of that our population growth continues to go up, and retail follows that.”
