Michael D. Smith Joins Streetsense as Director of Real Estate

Smith, formerly Vice President of Development at Williams Jackson Ewing, has joined the team as Director of Real Estate. Michael brings nearly 20 years of real estate, design, development, and leasing experience to Streetsense, including his work on CityCenterDC where he served as a consultant and leasing advisor. Michael will be utilizing his expertise to advise clients at every Streetsense touch point including site analysis, strategy, and execution.
Streetsense is recognized in DC as a top design, brokerage, and strategy firm, known for being involved in high-profile projects in the area including the highly anticipated Trump International Hotel in DC’s Old Post Office Building, the redesigned Chevy Chase Pavilion, the expansion of cycle studio Zengo, and several highly acclaimed restaurants such as The Red Hen, Barcelona Wine Bar, and upcoming Tico on 14th St.

Michael comes with a wealth of experience within the real estate industry, having spent the past 14 years at Williams Jackson Ewing, a premier retail development and leasing company that specializes in landmark urban projects. At Williams Jackson Ewing, Michael managed many notable projects including managing WJE’s consulting and leasing duties at CityCenterDC, a 2.5 million SF landmark mixed-use project in downtown DC.
Experience in the development, merchandising and leasing of landmark public and private markets and food halls is something else Michael brings to Streetsense. Most notably, Michael served as General Manager of Baltimore’s Belvedere Square during the project’s redevelopment, which included the reintroduction of a 15,000 square foot multi-tenant market, featuring some of the region’s most talented local food purveyors. Recently, Michael was part of a team selected by the City of Baltimore to produce a redevelopment strategy for the declining Lexington Market, the city’s 70,000 SF, 100-tenant flagship in its fleet of 6 public markets.
Michael also managed the redevelopment and leasing at 1 East Pratt Street, a high profile Class-A office building repositioning at Baltimore’s busiest intersection in Downtown’s Inner Harbor area. The project introduced 21,000 SF of street-oriented retail in what was previously underutilized office space. Also in Baltimore, Michael managed development and leasing at The Fitzgerald, a 280-unit luxury apartment building that introduced 24,000 SF of street retail on a critical site at the University of Baltimore that was previously an uninviting parking lot.
