Michael J. Tan Creti traces history of Episcopal Church in Nebraska
OMAHA, Neb. (PRWEB) January 07, 2015 -- Michael J. Tan Creti has recently released “The Great Crowd” (published by Xlibris), a sustained narrative of an actual Episcopal Church founded in 1885 in Omaha, Neb., at the time that the city was experiencing an explosive growth. The basis of the story is carefully drawn from the parish's archives, from many personal interviews and from the cities newspapers and civic archives.
Tan Creti is a former rector of the parish, whose relationship with the parish began in 1977. Subsequent to his retirement in 2006, he was asked to write a history of the parish. The story is analytical, hoping to shed light on the inner workings of a parish and at the same time, intimate, resulting in a love story.
“I was inspired to write this book by the rich tradition of storytelling which marked the life of the religious community to which I have belonged for more than 37 years and served as a priest for 29 years,” Tan Creti says.
“The Great Crowd” will appeal to a diverse group of readers. It is in some sense a “how to book” for individuals within the religious community who are concerned about how their community is dealing with its current social context. For readers interested in American history, urban history and/or cultural history, the book is a lens through which the object of their inquiry can be seen in a new light. It is also an entertaining read about life as it is full of interesting characters who are lovable for their convictions and foibles.

About the Author
Michael J. Tan Creti is a graduate of Dartmouth College, Berkeley Divinity School and Yale. He was ordained in the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa and served five years in small congregations at Clear Lake and Grinnell; after which he returned to graduate studies at Aquinas institute, St. Louis. After completing his course work in 1977, he took the position of assistant to the Rector of All Saints. He continued as assistant until he was called as Rector of All Saints in 1993. He retired in 2006. Tan Creti has previously published a book of poetry, “To Make Myself a Word,” 2010, and looks forward to returning to writing poetry. He presently is living in Omaha with his wife of 43 years, Jane.
