Michael J Wallace, DDS Explains The Use Of Cutting Edge Technology To Produce "Crowns In A Day"
Edmond, Oklahoma (PRWEB) July 23, 2014 -- In the past, and it is still true today in many offices, when a crown was prescribed by the dentist to restore a tooth it was a multi-visit procedure. This means that on the first visit, the patient gets an injection of anesthesia, the tooth prepared, an impression taken, and a temporary restoration put on the tooth. The patient makes a second appointment for a couple of weeks later, gets another injection, has the temporary pried off( if it hasn't fallen off already), and has a permanent restoration put on.
With the exciting new CEREC the procedure is done in a single appointment, start to finish. “dental crowns in a day”
What is CEREC?
CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Translated, it means that damaged teeth can quickly and economically be restored using a durable ceramic material that matches the natural color of the other teeth in a patient’s mouth.
How does CEREC work?
First, the damaged tooth is prepared by painting a thin layer of reflective powder directly on the tooth's surface. Using a special camera, pictures are taken of the tooth. Dentists work from this photo, which is actually a pin-sharp optical impression of the tooth.
Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology helps design the restoration from the optical impression. The patient can actually watch the dentist design their new restoration on a full-color computer monitor right before their eyes!
Then Computer Aided Manufacturing creates an extremely precise restoration, also while the patient watches. A high-speed diamond bur and a disk work simultaneously to mill the restoration out of a solid block of ceramic material. Finally, the dentist bonds the newly milled restoration to the tooth using state-of-the-art adhesive dentistry.
