Michigan Association for Home Care and the Institute for Professional Care Education Launch New Home Health Aide Certification Program
Lansing, MI (PRWEB) November 20, 2014 -- In order to meet the growing need for properly trained home health aides, the Michigan Association for Home Care (Michigan Home Care) is launching a new Home Health Aid Certification Program using courses developed by the Institute for Professional Care Education.
“Our members need a way to certify new Home Health Aides and meet all applicable state and federal training requirements. Based on feedback from surveyors we know that nurse instructors need consistent state-wide training, and aides need a consistent third party certification program. After reviewing several options we found that the Institute for Professional Care Education’s blended training program is the best solution for our members and other providers in the state,” says Cindy Thelen, CMP, Director of Membership Services, Michigan Association for Home Care.
Medicare certified Home Health Agencies in Michigan will now have access to three options for aide certification: the Institute for Professional Care Education’s comprehensive 75-hour blended certification program, a “CNA bridge” option for CNAs looking to earn HHA certification, and a “Certification only” program for agency-trained aides.
“We are pleased to be chosen as Michigan Home Care’s partner for Home Health Aide Certification. This program is already being used by Home Health agencies across the nation; it’s an honor to be endorsed by the Michigan Association for Home Care and we look forward to working with their members to provide quality training for quality care,” Says Sharon Brothers, MSW, CEO at the Institute for Professional Care Education.
Thelen notes that private duty providers of home care are also seeking ways to improve the training and competency of their care team. Many are planning to participate in Michigan Home Care’s program, which offers significant cost savings to members.
“Consumers will be the primary beneficiaries of this program,” notes Brothers, “as aides and caregivers throughout the state are held to a consistently high standard of training and skills.”
