Michigan Dog Training Company Owner, Michael Burkey, Held Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at New Plymouth Location
Plymouth, MI (PRWEB) August 08, 2013 -- On August 1, 2013, the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce held a red ribbon cutting ceremony at the Michigan Dog Training LLC facility, 1031 Cherry Street, Plymouth, Michigan. It is located in the historic section of Plymouth. Recently, MDT also held a Grand Opening celebration on July 20, 2013 which was well attended by families and their dogs. Visitors got to see the new location, socialize with other dog families and watch a Champion Trick Dog Standard Poodle trained by MDT perform as well as a Nosework demo by a blind Daschund.
MDT moved into its 4000 square facility on May 1, 2013. It is just one mile north of the Plymouth’s downtown Kellogg Park and it is easily accessible to M-14, I-275 and I-96 East freeways. Previously a professional photography studio, it contains two large training rooms, Michigan’s only 201/2’ long Nosework wall fitted with 13 scent detection tubes, a professional white photography wall for dog photos and videos and four professional offices. It's an optimum training location.
Plymouth was chosen to be MDT’s new central headquarters for several reasons. First of it is central to MDT clients who hail from Wayne, Oakland, Washtenaw, Macomb and Genessee Counties. Secondly, it is close to many area parks to walk and train dogs such as Maybury State Park and Proud Lake Recreational Area. Thirdly, MDT was already training its board and train dogs at Kellogg Park and the downtown business district as several of the stores are dog friendly, Kellogg Park is busy with families and people walking their dogs and it just has a great communal urban feel to it.
Michigan Dog Training’s President and Dog Behaviorist is Michael Burkey, a former Police K9 Officer, federal officer, Search and Rescue (SAR) K9 Training Director and SAR K9 Handler, obedience and rally competitor and social worker. Additionally, he is an expert trial witness and Certified Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluator for the American Kennel Club (AKC). He volunteers his services as a Dog Behaviorist for the Humane Society of Huron Valley in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was a founding member and Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC) and Ethics Chairman of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), founding member and Board Member for the Association of Humane Dog Training and currently is a professional member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers.
Burkey is highly regarded by veterinarians, rescue organizations and clients. Many dog trainers refer their aggression cases to Michael and veterinarians choose him to train their personal dogs. His unique experience of having trained police dogs and worked as a social worker sets him apart to be able to effectively train dogs and people. He employs a staff of five dog trainers and one administrative assistant / customer service specialist to assist him in meeting his clients needs.
At the Plymouth location, the following services are offered:
K9 Camp (board and train for 2 or four weeks)
Day Camp (dogs are dropped off and picked up three times per week for training)
Private training lessons, consultations and assessments and
Fun group dog training classes such as Puppy Socialization, Basic Manners, Remote Manners, Circus Class, Canine Good Citizen, Feisty Fido, and Nosework. (Group classes are also offered at MDT’s other location, the Humane Society of Huron Valley in Ann Arbor, Michigan.)
