Mile of Music Puts On Another Unforgettable Festival as 240 Artists Perform in Downtown Appleton
Appleton, WI (PRWEB) August 12, 2016 -- Back for its fourth year or “Mile 4,” the Mile of Music festival drew its biggest crowd to date this past weekend as 240 artists took the stage at 70-plus venues in Downtown Appleton, Wisconsin.
It is estimated that more than 60,000 attendees were on hand for the four days of fun, high-energy performances that kicked off with “The First Songs” preview showcase at Lawrence Memorial Chapel on August 3 and closed with “A Song Before We Go” medley on August 7.
A festival focused on showcasing emerging artists and their original music, there were many performers who were expected to shine brightly coming into Mile 4 and lived up to their billing, including LOLO, who wowed the crowd during four different sets. The Bose Troubadour Tour was another fan favorite, bringing together members of five different acts from the festival and highlighting their individual singer-songwriter talents.
Artists like SUSTO and Dreamers caused quite a buzz and packed venues in their Mile of Music debut, while returning bands such as Wild Adriatic, Cereus Bright, Farewell Milwaukee, Blackfoot Gypsies and Me Like Bees were also welcomed back to Appleton by large, enthusiastic crowds.
According to Dave Willems, festival co-founder and marketing executive, Mile 4 was once again a hit with the community. “To see so many people up and down the mile-long stretch of Downtown Appleton the first night and feel the energy they brought, we knew it was going to be another big weekend,” he said. “This festival has been something our community has backed from the very beginning and it’s exciting to see the word spread with visitors coming from all over to take in the music.”
Festival organizers had a vision for Mile of Music from the early planning stages in making it an experience that everyone would enjoy. This goal continues to be met by offering nearly all events at no charge and including added elements – sometimes unexpected – that appeal to music lovers of all ages.
The Music Education Events are among these elements as they offer dozens of workshops and “jam” sessions that allow Mile of Music attendees to be part of some hands-on music-making, including drumming, singing and dancing. Mile 4 also featured pop-up sessions at various venues throughout the weekend and a bus tour with live performances aboard. New this year was Bike to the Beat, a ride of varying distances (10 to 48 miles) with several artists performing along the course.
Returning artist Mateo Vosganian of Wild Adriatic shared, “Thank you doesn’t quite do it justice. It was great to be back in our second home again. We love you, Appleton, Wisconsin.”

The Mile of Music is an artisan, original music festival that kicked off in August 2013. In its first four years, the festival has quickly flourished. It brought 200 bands and solo artists to Downtown Appleton in 2015 alone, with 750 live music sets performed.
