MileOne and the American Cancer Society Announce 2014 Winner of Mercedes-Benz Raffle Benefiting the Society
Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) December 08, 2014 -- For their 15th consecutive year, MileOne Automotive donated a new car that was raffled-off to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. In honor of this milestone, MileOne’s 2014 donated vehicle was a 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA.
More than 7,500 raffle tickets were sold throughout Maryland and the surrounding region for a chance to win the car, which helped to raise over $75,000. These funds help to support the lifesaving cancer research, free cancer support services, and screening and prevention programs provided by the American Cancer Society.
Raffle tickets were sold by American Cancer Society volunteers and MileOne employees from March through October. This year, for the first time, the winning ticket for the car was drawn at the Baltimore Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk held on October 12, 2014 at the Harry and Jeanette Family Center Y at Stadium Place.
The winner, Annette Hansen from Baltimore, purchased her ticket from a Making Strides walk participant and cancer survivor. Annette and her husband, James Hansen, accepted the prize at MileOne’s Mercedes-Benz of Owings Mills dealership on December 3, 2014. Annette elected to receive a cash payout and was presented with a check for $20,000 by Scott Fader, Chief Operating Officer of MileOne Automotive, Rick Astarita, General Manager of Mercedes-Benz of Owings Mills, Andrew Primrose, Senior Community Engagement Representative of America Cancer Society, and Cate Cannavino, Social Media and Events Manager of MileOne Automotive.
MileOne’s annual car raffle was established in 2000 by former MileOne Automotive COO Jerry Fader, who lost his battle against cancer in 2011. His legacy has been preserved by his family and three sons, Steve Fader, Scott Fader and Brian Fader. Through their efforts and with the help of MileOne Automotive, they continue to support the American Cancer Society each year. Their efforts go beyond an annual vehicle donation, as they have also raised millions of dollars to help the Society fight cancer and donate van transportation for the Society’s Hope Lodge Facility in downtown Baltimore. MileOne has been an annual Flagship sponsor of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk for many years and this year they took on the role of Presenting Sponsor. They are also a regional National Corporate Team Sponsor of Relay for Life. In 2014 alone, MileOne Automotive has raised over $125,000 in support of the American Cancer Society.

About The American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation's largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
