Military’s Distinguished Visitors to Announce Future Commitment to Therapeutic Campus for Individuals with Special Needs
San Diego, California (PRWEB) July 01, 2015 -- In the past four months hundreds of troops have rotated from all over the US to contribute to the construction of “Camp TERI,” the first of its kind vocational college and campus for children and adults with special needs. The troops representing the Air Force, Air National Guard, and Navy completed the retaining wall surrounding the 20 acre campus. On July 8th, the military’s distinguished visitors from the ranks in DC will announce their future commitment to help TERI complete the build and they will complete an assessment of the site thus far. The vetting of TERI’s Campus of Life was completed by these distinguished visitors over the last year, and the selection deemed the project one of the largest to date. This collaboration is saving the organization millions in labor and material costs associated with the build.
The partnership with the military is through the Office of the Security of Defense’s, IRT program. The goal of the IRT is to provide real world training opportunities for our service members and units to prepare them for their wartime missions while supporting the needs of America’s underserved communities. “This is a great training opportunity for our service men and women to hone their skills and learn about the cause they are supporting. By taking tours of current TERI facilities and meeting the students during their rotation, it brings a new level of perspective to their role here,” said IRT project manager Chief Master Sergeant Cindi Schlitz.
When the campus is complete, the site will consist of 10 buildings and over 100,000 square feet of education space. All 20 acres will be developed on the property in San Marcos, which currently houses the organization’s therapeutic equestrian center. Among the new buildings there will be an aquatic and fitness center, a music and performing arts center and an organic farm. “We are excited to continue this amazing partnership and when the campus is complete to share it with our San Diego community,” Cheryl Kilmer, TERI CEO and Founder.
There will be an open house event at TERI’s Campus on July 8th at 5:00 pm to meet and thank these distinguished visitors as well as interview them about the process, continued collaboration, and project with “Camp TERI” thus far.
