Milton Hershey School Alumna Named New White House Social Secretary
HERSHEY, Pa. (PRWEB) June 09, 2015 -- Milton Hershey School alumna Deesha Dyer ’95 recently was appointed by President Barack Obama as the new White House social secretary. Her promotion was announced in April 2015. Dyer previously served as deputy director and deputy social director of the White House. Dyer will oversee all official and personal presidential visits and events.
“I feel humbled, excited and ready to take on this new role,” Dyer said. “My favorite part about my job is welcoming new visitors to the White House on behalf of the President and First Lady.”
Dyer enrolled at MHS in the fifth grade. Along with her academic success, she also was active in softball, color guard, gospel choir, varsity choir, and dance.
“We are so proud of Deesha’s incredible accomplishments,” MHS President Pete Gurt ’85 said. “It’s always impressive to see our graduates leave the school to lead successful, productive lives while also contributing to society in such impactful ways.”
In 2005, Dyer was awarded the MHS Alumni Achievement Award for her outstanding contributions in the area of Community Service.
“MHS played a big influence in my life. Growing up there was such a unique experience. I learned the importance of community and being open to different experiences and people,” Dyer said. “I still keep in touch with the majority of fellow students at MHS. It is a bond that we will have for life!”
