Milton Hershey School Recognizes Outstanding Alumni Achievements
HERSHEY, Pa. (PRWEB) April 22, 2015 -- On Friday, April 17, Milton Hershey School® honored three outstanding graduates for their academic, career and community service accomplishments: Melissa (Peeples) Fullmore ’91, Sandra Escobosa-Guynes ’94 and Sultana Karim ’08.
“I am humbled by the amazing triumphs of our alumni, who are making an impact in education, business, government, medicine, art, music, philanthropy and so many other areas,” said MHS President Pete Gurt ’85. “Along with being great role models for our students, these women also are using their education, talents and passions to make a difference in their communities. This is a virtue we strive to instill in our students.”
About the honorees:
• Fullmore will receive the Career Achievement Award. She currently serves as the aspiring ed-leaders program officer with the Teaching Trust. She has worked in education for 18 years in various roles, including as a principal in Tallahassee, Fla., where she led her school to the highest learning gains in the district. She also was instrumental in the passage of legislation in Fla. to ensure educational equality.
• Guynes will receive the Community Service Award. She founded Pearls for Creative Healing, a domestic violence awareness and recovery program. She also created the “End the Silence” photography project to provide domestic violence survivors the opportunity to represent their stories with a photo shoot; complete with a hair, makeup and pampering session. The project gained national attention for the issue of domestic violence.
• Karim will receive the Academic Achievement Award. A graduate of Lock Haven University, she received several scholarships for her demonstrated leadership, academic excellence and community service. While attending The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, she received the Dean Scholarship and the Opportunities Scholarship. In October 2014, she completed her master’s degree in counseling psychology with a 3.9 GPA. She is currently pursuing her professional counseling license in Md. and working with victims of abuse.
Each spring, MHS acknowledges accomplished alumni, leading up to the announcement of the Alumnus of the Year, which will take place Saturday, June 13.
