Milton Hershey School Student Honored with CORE Award
Hershey, Pa. (PRWEB) April 30, 2015 -- Milton Hershey School® student Joshua Arledge recently was honored with the Coalition for Residential Education’s Catherine Hershey Student of the Year Award. The award, sponsored by MHS, is given to a student who exemplifies outstanding leadership, dedication, and a commitment to making the most of his/her talents and abilities.
“We are extremely proud of Joshua’s accomplishments at Milton Hershey School,” said Annette Cole-Gill, CORE chair and head of Elementary Division at MHS. “His leadership and commitment to the school is impressive, and he is a true role model for our student body.”
Joshua also was recently honored for his exemplary volunteer service with the deaf community with a Certificate of Excellence from The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, and with a President’s Volunteer Service Award granted by the program on behalf of President Barack Obama. Joshua created an instructional program called “Sign Time” to teach elementary-aged students sign language and help them develop a better understanding of the deaf community.
“I’ve received unimaginable support from Milton Hershey School in the past few years, and to have the support of the Coalition of Residential Education encouraging me to continue fighting for educational and social equality for the deaf community is remarkable,” Joshua said.
Joshua will attend Gallaudet University, the only liberal arts college in the world specifically designed for deaf people, to study elementary education.
The Catherine Hershey Residential Education Awards are the only national awards specifically for the residential education field. The awards honor outstanding staff, students and supporters whose steadfast contributions and dedication exemplify the essence of residential education: affording children from lower-income backgrounds the opportunities to help them navigate a solid course in career, relationships and in life.
