Milton Hershey School Students Partner in Award-Winning Program with The Hershey Company
HERSHEY, Pa. (PRWEB) June 09, 2016 -- Twenty Milton Hershey School® juniors and seniors recently completed the Hershey Honors Authentic Business Management (HHABM) program. The program is designed for honors students who participate in the school’s Business, Financial Management and Accounting career pathway to explore the daily operations of a Fortune 500 Company over 35 weeks.
MHS students interact with 40 employees of The Hershey Company who serve as subject matter experts. Once a week, students meet with these experts on-site or in the classroom to learn about the employee’s role, understand how their functions support the organization, and gain an awareness of corporate challenges and successes.
“Meeting with executives throughout the year and presenting on specific aspects of the organization helped MHS students understand the mission and purpose of a successful Fortune 500 company,” said MHS Director of Career and Technical Education Director Robert Kemmery. “This opportunity was a great way for them to grow as professionals and learn about the corporate world.”
The executives integrated core lessons from the classroom into the workplace by making connections to relevant, real-world business applications. During the final week of the program, MHS students presented ideas for new products, marketing plans and corporate social responsibility to the employees.
Many graduates of the HHABM Awards maintain contact with employees for mentorship and academic support throughout college. Students who complete the program also are eligible to gain additional experience by applying for summer internships with The Hershey Company.
Milton Hershey School partners with local businesses to provide real-world learning opportunities for students as part of the renowned Career/Technical Education program. In the last four years, 100 percent of graduating seniors earned at least one industry-recognized certification in his or her area of study.
