Mimic Technologies and ORSI Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Advance Training Technologies
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) March 22, 2015 -- Mimic Technologies, a pioneer leader in robotic surgery simulation, announced today the beginning of a new partnership with the internationally acclaimed ORSI - OLV Robotic Surgery Institute that will jointly deliver new innovative training for robotic surgeons in Europe. The collaboration aims to integrate the latest simulation technologies into ORSI training programs, test and evaluate new training and reporting platforms, and spur further innovation in procedure-specific augmented reality (AR) simulation for robotics.
Prof. Alexandre Mottrie, CEO of ORSI, discusses the partnership, “We are delighted to collaborate with Mimic to incorporate the dV-Trainer into our EAU Fellowship Program. The dV-Trainer has built-in evaluation metrics and curriculum tools that align well with our results oriented mission.”
Mimic is best known for introducing task training simulation for the da Vinci robot in 2007, which teaches surgeons to drive the da Vinci robot and execute common surgical tasks such as suturing and energy management. Approximately 90% of robotic surgeons have used Mimic’s simulation software. Most recently, Mimic has introduced an augmented reality approach to learning procedures, where 3D surgical videos are augmented with interactive virtual content. Mimic has also introduced a laparoscopic training platform called the Xperience Team Trainer, which allows the robotics first assist to train with a robotic surgeon in a virtual collaborative environment.
Jeff Berkley, the Founder and CEO of Mimic, believes a partnership with ORSI will allow both organizations to explore the best approach for utilizing the latest simulation technologies in surgical training. “We feel the collaboration between ORSI and Mimic gives us the opportunity to push the envelope and provide advanced surgical training that in the past could not take place outside of the operating room.”
Todd Larson, Executive Director of MimicMED, the training subsidiary of Mimic, also feels that this will be the beginning of something very special, “We are extremely excited to partner with a progressive institution like ORSI. It is a real privilege to partner with leading educators like Dr. Mottrie and his colleagues. We believe that by joining ORSI’s expertise in education with our training technologies, curriculum expertise, and data collection platform, we will be able to take robotic training to the next level.”
