Mindray’s Goodwill Calendar for 2013 shows generosity and humanitarian support through its active Corporate Social Responsibility Programme
(PRWEB UK) 18 December 2013 -- SUPPORT FOR THE YA'AN EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
The magnitude-7 earthquake which hit Lushan County in China’s Sichuan Province on the morning of April 20th caused hundreds of casualties in the area. To support the earthquake victims who had lost their homes and loved ones, Mindray promptly launched an emergency aid project to donate more than 5.8 million RMB (around € 0.7 million) worth of high-end medical equipment to the affected area. Patient monitors, defibrillators, anaesthesia machines, haematology and biochemical analysers, microplate readers and portable ultrasound systems were shipped from Mindray HQ in Shenzhen to hospitals across the quake-hit area to meet the surging demand as the rescue effort took shape. Meanwhile, an emergency support team set off from Mindray’s office in Chengdu to provide 24-hour on-site maintenance to ensure the lifesaving equipment worked without interruption.
MENDING HEARTS AT THE ROOF OF THE WORLD
Between the 12th July and 9th August this year, the Chinese Red Cross Foundation and one of the most respected hospitals in China organised a medical mission to provide free congenital heart disease screening for children in Tibet. Mindray donated an M7, its hand-carried colour Doppler Diagnostic Ultrasound System to support this mission to the Nyingchi, Lhasa, Shigatse and Qamdo regions of the country.
Congenital heart disease has a particularly high prevalence in Tibet, due to the rigorous climate and poor living conditions. Indeed the incidence of childhood heart diseases is two to three times greater than that experienced in lower altitude regions on Tibet’s plains. However, few clinics in Tibet are equipped with ultrasound devices, a key tool in the diagnosis of congenital heart disease. Mindray’s donation of its M7 portable ultrasound system played a pivotal role in enabling the mission. Among the 20,000 children examined during the Tibetan free clinic, 108 were diagnosed with heart defects using the Mindray M7. Those patients diagnosed with defects including atrial septal defect (ASD), ventricular septal defect (VSD), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and pulmonary valve stenosis (PS) will be taken to Beijing for further free treatment.
The M7’s high-quality and real-time dynamic images provide doctors with abundant information on heart structure, function and haemodynamics. Hou Haijun, the Associate Chief Physician from the Ultrasound Department of the Armed Police Force General Hospital was involved in the mission, and he commented, “Sometimes we needed to screen more than 200 children each day in remote rural areas, which meant the ultrasound device needed to be portable, stable, easy-to-use and efficient, Mindray’s M7 satisfied all these criteria with ease.”
Every Child is Precious’ is a touching film covering the mission, which can be viewed on YouTube.
MINDRAY SUPPORTS PARIS-BEIRUT RUN FOR PEACE
On 7th April 2013, Dr Gloria Nasr, a sports doctor and Lebanese athlete living in Paris, began her Run for Peace from the Champs Elysee to Beirut’s Martyrs Square. Mindray sponsored her effort to help provide with a support team and accommodation during her extraordinary challenge. Gloria’s journey began with the Paris marathon and would cover 5,000km and 9 countries. The ‘Paris-Beyrouth-en-courant’ run was dedicated to peace in Lebanon and the Near East and as she put it “to raise awareness that will and solidarity can overcome the most undefeatable obstacles.” Three months later in July 2013, having run on average 52km nearly every day (with one day per week set aside to rest) through challenging terrain and harsh climates, Gloria completed her transcontinental marathon.
Says David Yin, Mindray International General Manager, “Mindray sponsored Dr Nasr’s run as it highlighted the valuable messages of peace and human wellbeing, echoing Mindray’s vision and mission for the welfare of humanity. We are proud to be involved with such an achievement."
