Minnesota Native Transforms Local School and Teacher Fundraising Through Social Media
Minneapolis, MN and New York, NY (PRWEB) January 30, 2014 -- WeWIN’s Mike Mulry has been quickly signing up local Twin Cities’ teachers and schools to its social fundraising platform. WeWIN is the first platform of its kind that couples the power of social media with the convenience of online shopping, providing donors a completely transparent way to support their local schools. Teachers and staff create “WinLists” of specific classroom supplies and equipment they need which are then easily shared across social media and the web. Purchases from the WinList ship directly to the school.
Mike Mulry, Vice President of Business Development at WeWIN, is a lifelong resident of Minnesota and has two boys in the public school system. Along with his wife, Amy, a Kindergarten Teacher with Minneapolis Public Schools, the idea for the WinList came to them at the kitchen table after reviewing their sons’ school supply lists.

"It just made sense to adapt WeWIN for teachers and schools. The platform was already being used by several charities and foundations including The Leary Firefighters Foundation and TheFireStore; we just repurposed it for education,” said Mulry. “On average, teachers spend nearly $500 of their own money on classroom supplies. The WinList provides a completely transparent way for the extended community to get involved and minimize that cost. By leveraging a complete catalog of products available through a major online retailer, teachers can select the specific items they need for their classrooms.”
Mulry has signed a variety of private, charter and public schools in Minnesota including Minneapolis Public Schools’ Sanford Elementary, Arch Academy, West Side Summit, Fosston Public Schools and several others. Working with national retailers enables teachers and schools to choose the supplies and equipment they need from trusted vendors. WinList items so far have included everyday necessities such as tissues and hand sanitizer, to Kindles and eBooks. One of WeWIN’s clients, Northeast College Prep, is opening its doors for the first time in 2014 and is using WeWIN to help equip its new building from the ground up. WeWIN will add additional merchants as the program rolls out across the country this year.
WeWIN was launched in 2013 at the world’s largest education conference, the NJEA Convention in Atlantic City, NJ, and was received with great enthusiasm.
“The Axle team creates distributed commerce solutions for some of the largest retailers and brands in the world,” said Syd Dufton, President & CEO of WeWIN, a division of Axle Digital. “Based in New York City, we experienced Hurricane Sandy, saw the devastating impact on our children’s schools and sought a way to help get desperately needed supplies back into the schools through the support of the community. As school budgets continue to shrink, WeWIN can help offset the effects with a simple, fun way to involve the community via social media and the web.”
About Axle Digital and WeWIN
Axle is a team of successful tech entrepreneurs that is passionate about helping organizations that are making the world a better place. The team has worked with the largest retailers and brands in the world - Gap, Nordstrom, Old Navy, Footlocker and others to help connect retailers with their customers wherever they are. It took a natural disaster in the form of Hurricane Sandy to get the Axle team thinking that if its distributed commerce platform could help retailers reach their customers across multiple touch points including social media, the web and via email, why can't charities, schools and non-profits benefit from the same advanced technology?
