Minnesota’s McCullough to Serve as Guest Editor for AJMC’s 5th Annual Special Issue on Health IT
PLAINSBORO, N.J. (PRWEB) February 19, 2015 -- Jeffrey S. McCullough, an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, will serve as guest editor of the annual special issue of The American Journal of Managed Care that focuses on research and commentary in health information technology (Health IT). The issue, to be published this fall, marks the fifth special Health IT issue.
McCullough, who teaches healthcare finance, received his PhD in health economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania after earning his AB in biochemistry from Harvard. Appointed in the school’s Division of Health Policy and Management, Dr. McCullough’s research interests center on the role of technology and innovation in healthcare. His published work has covered the role and effects of technology on rural health, ambulatory care, and diabetes care, among other subjects.
“I look forward to serving as editor of the fifth installment of the special Health IT issue, as this is a turning point for both the journal and for the role of health information technology,” Dr. McCullough said. “I am hopeful that we will see contributions on the role of Health IT in measuring quality, on how it is shaping health system organization, and on the role of Health IT for consumers, in such areas as mobile health technology and the distribution of health information.”
This year’s annual Health IT issue will come during a critical period for the nation’s healthcare providers, as many strive with transitions to electronic medical records as well as movement to new payment models. Earlier this month, the US Health and Human Services Department announced an aggressive timeline for tying Medicare reimbursements to value-based structures, instead of fee-for-service.

The year 2015 also marks the 20th year of publication for The American Journal of Managed Care, the first peer-reviewed journal with a mission of bringing evidence-based decision-making into the healthcare sector, instead of confining studies of delivery systems to academia.
