MintModa Predicts Seasonless Storytelling for NYFW Spring 2017
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 08, 2016 -- MintModa, provider of brand-centric trend forecasts for fashion and design-related industries, releases its forecast for NYFW. Sharon Graubard, internationally recognized fashion forecaster, offers her highly anticipated seasonal predictions.
“There are a few directions that are bubbling up. There is an overall shift towards seasonless storytelling, especially with production and delivery schedules in flux. And expect to see clothing that women can truly inhabit and not look as if they are trying too hard,” stated MintModa founder and Creative Director Sharon Graubard. “Even luxe fabrics or experimental cuts have a new ease and wearability. And most styles will be shown with flat or low-heeled footwear.”
One key direction is Sport Nomad. This trend is based on classic American sportswear, but the shapes are oversized and constructions borrow from ethnic cultures. It uses crisp white shirtings, natural linens, denim and plain T-shirt jersey mixed with activewear pieces like slouchy track pants. Fits will be forgiving, as in boxy shifts or styles that wrap the torso.
“Another direction is what I think of as Fever Dream. There will be dark colors popped with neon or nearly neons — imagine a glowing orchid in a dark jungle or flickering lights in a futuristic city,” added Graubard. Fever Dream conjures an otherworldly mood, deeply sensuous and mysterious. Animal prints, vivid pixel patterns and cellophane-like layers give it depth. Shapes can be ladylike, as in sheath dresses or bow blouses, but the color and fabric will make it exotic. This trend will also impact beauty.
A third MintModa theme will be nature-based. “We are feeling nature under a microscope,” explains Graubard. “Colors are damp and murky: dull greens, misty olives, mustard-y goldenrod with accents soft pink. The shapes will be organic, with imperfection celebrated in off-kilter print placement, acid washes, uneven hems, and lots of texture. It’s romantic but not precious. I keep wanting to call it Swamp Thing.”
MintModa also sees the influence of current Netflix shows “Stranger Things” and Baz Luhrmann’s “The Get Down”. There will be a rediscovery of 70s and early 80s urban and suburban style, including skimpy tees, tiny short-shorts or denim cutoffs, bare midriffs and slit skirts. “The slinky disco dress will make a big comeback, a la American Designer Stephen Burrows,” concluded Graubard.
