Miss America 1987 Kellye Cash Helps Youth Town Battle Addiction
Jackson, Tenn. (PRWEB) August 15, 2013 -- Miss America 1987 Kellye Cash is lending her voice, energy and talents to help young men battle addiction and behavioral problems at Youth Town in Jackson, Tenn. Through this role, Cash is building on work that she began early in her career, when she not only promoted drug and alcohol addiction awareness but also worked with First Lady Nancy Reagan on the Just Say No campaign. Her support also ties into a family legacy, as her Great-Uncle Johnny Cash served on the Youth Town Board of Directors.
Cash explained the reason for her involvement with the nonprofit. She said, “I was so amazed the first time I came to Youth Town. We have a place that helps young men and boys deal with alcohol and drug abuse. So many times there is no one who seems to understand and no one who is pointing them in the right direction with the right answers. Boys and families in need can find that important understanding and direction at Youth Town.”
Cash, who was Miss Tennessee when she became Miss America 1987, resides in West Tennessee with her husband and children. In addition to volunteer work, she stays busy with a variety of roles. Currently, she is performing in “Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash” through Oct. 19 at The Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, Tenn. Videos of Cash, Youth Town Executive Director Nick Pappas, board members and others will rotate on http://www.youthtown.net.
Youth Town is accredited to provide residential treatment services, services for substance use conditions, and wilderness and therapeutic outdoor services to young men.
