More than 300 proposals were received and Miss Fiesta® San Antonio’s workshop, "Party with a Purpose" Utilizing Fiesta® San Antonio to Develop Community Partnerships and Youth Leadership to Promote City Wide Health and Wellness was recommended by the conference planning committee as “significantly advancing the conference goals and objectives.”
The theme for this year’s CCHP conference is From Rhetoric to Reality: Achieving Authentic, Transformative & Equitable Partnerships, with the goal of mobilizing and inspiring community-campus partnerships to address the root causes of health, social, environmental and economic inequities.
Miss Fiesta® San Antonio 2013, Victoria Flores, is an accomplished young woman who was chosen to develop a platform that highlights and promotes the charitable, educational or cultural objectives of the Fiesta® Commission Charitable Corporation. The charitable corporation program areas include Education, Health & Fitness, Safety, Environment, Arts & Culture and History & Heritage.
Flores is a student at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and has centered her platform around preventative Health Care and Fitness. As a part of her platform, she has hosted two Health Fairs.
“It has truly been a wonderful opportunity to provide San Antonio with health fairs, screening services, health education and fitness activities this year”, said Victoria Flores, Miss Fiesta® San Antonio. “I am very excited to present at the CCPH Conference and share what Fiesta® and San Antonio are doing to improve our city's health and health partnerships to an international audience. Furthermore, I look forward to learning about methods and efforts from cities throughout the country, and how we can incorporate new practices to better serve San Antonio,” she added.
San Antonio is currently ranked among the highest American cities for rates of obesity, diabetes and heart disease, and Miss Fiesta® San Antonio, acting as a spokesperson for the Fiesta® Commission Charitable Corporation, has created public access to screenings, education and community resources through these series of local Health Fairs.
