Missenden Abbey Conference Centre plays host to The Earl of Wessex
(PRWEB UK) 23 December 2013 -- His Royal Highness, The Earl of Wessex, was a guest at Missenden Abbey Conference Centre when he chaired the annual meeting of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation’s International Council at the venue.
The Royal visitor was chairing the two-day governance meeting at the conference centre in London Road, Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, a partner of Buckinghamshire New University, when he took time out of his busy schedule to meet with young apprentices working at the Abbey.
The International Council is a governance body of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation and is made up of representatives from the four world regions, Africa, Americas, Asia Pacific, and Europe and the Mediterranean and Arab States (EMAS).
Eva Neupauer-Jones, General Manager of Missenden Abbey Conference Centre, said: “It was a great honour and pleasure to host The Earl of Wessex and The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation.
“We value our work as a venue for training and also our work with young people, and this represented a wonderful opportunity for our apprentices to meet a distinguished figure. It was inspirational for them.
“Apprentices at Missenden Abbey carry out training with Aylesbury College in a link-up also involving Bucks New University, so we feel we are developing people to gain both vocational qualifications and experience in the workplace."
Apprentices Eloise Chatwin, Alyssa Gallinero, Emma Quarmby, Abby Taylor and Dan Taylor met His Royal Highness, as did Mrs Neupauer-Jones and Bethany Underwood, 16, who works as part of the food and beverage staff at Missenden Abbey Conference Centre and has herself achieved a Gold Award with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
The apprentices also met Peter Westgarth, the Chief Executive of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in the UK.
A representative of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation said: “Missenden Abbey is a fantastic venue for hosting meetings such as that of our International Council and I cannot fault the first-class, professional services and facilities provided by the centre. We would not hesitate to recommend Missenden Abbey Conference Centre.”
