Mission Data Helps National Geographic Extend Laughs, Fun Facts for Kids of All Ages with Just Joking for iPad and iPhone
Louisville, Kentucky (PRWEB) November 19, 2013 -- Amid rapidly expanding use of mobile devices for research, gaming and productivity, book publishers are seeking new ways to connect with their readers. With deep experience in media and publishing applications, Mission Data, developer of web and mobile solutions that help companies launch big ideas through digital experiences, recently worked with National Geographic Kids to release an interactive mobile app based upon its popular children’s book series, Just Joking.
National Geographic Kids’ Just Joking app, available for iPads and iPhones, is full of knock-knock jokes, tongue twisters, riddles, and more of the silly jokes kids love. With laughing animals, goofy people and other colorful illustrations paired with surprising sound effects and interactive features, the app is presented in National Geographic’s signature eye-popping color palette and dynamic, photo-driven style.
“Mission Data understands our vision for connecting with readers of our book series in ways that are both fun and educational,” said Natalie Jones, Digital Product Manager at National Geographic. “Their collaborative approach helped us to extend the essence of our print products into engaging digital experiences.”
Mission Data also worked with National Geographic to launch the highly successful Weird But True app in 2011. Like Weird But True, National Geographic Kids’ latest app is achieving top rankings. Since its launch at the end of August, Just Joking has been listed among the top 20 downloads in the Books category, according to Top App Charts: http://topappcharts.com/details.php?appid=672796476&remove=672796476.
Just Joking is designed for kids to explore, with interactive elements such as swiping the screen to move from joke to joke, or shaking the device to see a random joke. Children tap the screen to get punch lines and read for themselves, or have jokes read to them by a bright and sunny narrator. Favorite jokes can be stored and shared via email, and a search feature allows jokes to be found by subjects, like animals, weather, space and science.
“National Geographic brings science and culture to life through its vibrant publications” Jim Cook, Mission Data Senior Vice President, Digital Strategy. “We are excited to help develop mobile applications that deliver their brand experience in a new way.”
