Missouri Synod Lutherans March to Uphold Sanctity of Life
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) January 20, 2014 -- Lutherans Mark 41st Anniversary of Roe v. Wade
Participate in two ‘March for Life’ events to uphold sanctity of life.
Lutherans are standing up for life by participating in the National March for Life Wednesday, Jan. 22, in Washington, D.C., and the Walk for Life West Coast, Saturday, Jan. 25, in San Francisco, both of which protest the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion.
Events on the day of the National March for Life in Washington, D.C., include a 9 a.m. EST Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod (LCMS) Divine Service of worship at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Va. The service is open to the public. A pre-march rally begins at noon EST on the National Mall. The march is expected to conclude around 3 p.m. EST at the U.S. Supreme Court building.
The National March for Life in 2013 drew an estimated 650,000 people.
“Last year, more than 400 LCMS members joined with tens of thousands of other pro-life Christians and marched together to the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court to bring public awareness to the plague of abortion,” said Maggie Karner, LCMS director of Life and Health Ministries. “This year we want to top those numbers.”
LCMS members also will participate in the Walk for Life West Coast. The event was first held in 2005. It drew 50,000 participants last year.
“As more and more years pass since the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, it is critical that pro-life advocates gather and stand together to give witness to the tragedy we see around us caused by the disrespect for human life,” Karner said. “Broadening our participation in the nation’s multiple demonstrations is a way to boldly witness for life to the world. We pray our actions move others to join in working to preserve the sanctity of all human life.”
