Mobilization Will Be Driving Force in Emergency Management in 2014, Says IBA’s In Case of Crisis
Herndon, VA (PRWEB) December 16, 2013 -- With the average smartphone user keeping their device within three feet and checking it every six minutes, Chris Britton, General Manager of Irving Burton Associates’ In Case of Crisis, expects the mobilization of emergency management and business continuity to dramatically shift to widespread adoption in 2014. While the majority of emergency management plans across all industries are still paper-based, the rise of mobile communication is now driving organizations to utilize mobile technology solutions as the front lines of communication for crisis situations.
“While traditional emergency and business continuity plans are intended to help save lives, mitigate disasters and provide other instructions for unexpected events, the reality is that they are often not actionable in the midst of a crisis or emergency situation,” said Britton. “The impending paradigm shift of intelligent mobile solutions is empowering organizations and individuals to work collectively to overcome crisis situations with safety as the paramount outcome.”
Following are key insights from Britton regarding the mobilization of emergency management in 2014:
1) Two-Way Communication on the Rise – As mobile technologies continue to advance, two-way communication adoption between organizations and their constituents – particularly on college campuses – will see a dramatic increase in 2014. Increasingly, organizations want to put emergency response knowledge into the hands of their community with more individualized services that empower and enable a higher degree of success and mitigation of potential disasters.
2) Mobile App Mash-up – Universities and large-scale organizations will fold more technologies and software tools into mobile apps in 2014. Including multiple services under an umbrella corporate or university-branded mobile app, both homegrown and outsourced services will be mashed-up to increase overall adoption of a single mobile app.
3) Decline of Traditional Specialized Emergency/Security Devices – As mobile devices will begin to serve as the unifying vehicle for communication, there will be a natural decline in the implementation and overall use of specialized emergency and security devices including standalone alarms, Emergency Blue Light Systems, etc. As mobile emergency management technologies evolve, expect to also see a decrease in 911 calls.
4) GPS and Geo-fencing Technologies Evolve – More and more GPS manufacturers will begin to offer floor-by-floor detailed interior guidance and other mobile technologies such as geo-fencing will enable emergency management professionals to better isolate certain radii in closer or wider proximities, depending on the situation. These evolved technologies will provide greater insight and clarity to minimize disasters and more effectively communicate to the public.
