Modern Huntsman Launches Kickstarter Campaign for Magazine to Improve the Perception of Hunting
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) October 05, 2017 -- Modern Huntsman, a creative collective based out of Dallas, Texas, has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to produce the first issue of their biannual publication, aimed at improving the perception of hunting. Born out of frustration with the way hunting is often misrepresented, this magazine will showcase stories that return to the root traditions and highlight conservation issues, all in hopes of improving the perception of hunting in modern society.
"We've received an overwhelming amount of support from the hunting community since we started showcasing work on the Modern Huntsman Instagram account last year, “said Tyler Sharp, creative director and editor-in-chief of the magazine. “While we have great forward momentum, we need everybody’s help to get this first issue to print.”
Contrasting with the norm, Modern Huntsman started with an online following, and has leveraged that to move the project forward. Utilizing grassroots online marketing, clever inclusion of its community through Kickstarter rewards, and an innovative editorial model, the team is on a path to bring about change to a sometimes stuffy magazine category.
"Our contributor model is unique, basing compensation on percentage of sales, which is the perfect opportunity to support the photographers who deserve recognition in a shrinking editorial world,” added Sharp. “We also won't be tied to traditional advertising models, which in our opinion often degrades the quality of content, so we can choose what brands and organizations we want to partner with, and create original material for them, tailored to the themes of each issue.”
The magazine will feature more than 200 pages of striking photography and writing that is rarely seen in hunting magazines. Each issue will be printed on thick matte paper and perfect bound, creating a top-tier publication.
Contributors to the magazine include some of the top photographers and writers in the outdoor industry, such as Charles Post, Chris Douglas, Jillian Lukiwski, Simon Roosevelt, John Dunaway, Camrin Dengel, Kaleb White, Dusan Smetana, Tanner Johnson, Nicole Belke, and Eamon Waddington. Combined, they have produced work for such well-renowned companies as Yeti, Cabela’s, Stetson, Mossy Oak, Beretta, Filson, National Geographic, Orvis, Ducks Unlimited, The Discovery Channel, Toyota, Animal Planet, Under Armour, Go Pro,Wild Turkey, Wrangler, and Bass Pro Shops, among others.
The Kickstarter campaign will run into mid-November, and issues are tentatively scheduled to ship in early 2018. Currently, Modern Huntsman magazine is only available for pre-order through Kickstarter.
