Modular Building Institute Member Companies to Speak, Exhibit at BIM Forum on Prefab
(PRWEB) August 28, 2013 -- The Modular Building Institute and representatives from its member companies will present and exhibit at the Denver BIM Forum, October 8-9, when hundreds of industry professionals come together to discuss the use of BIM in prefab and modular construction.
MBI, the international trade association that has served commercial modular construction for 30 years, recognizes the significance of BIM technology for the building industry. “Two of the more recent advances that have led to improved construction efficiency are building information modeling and the increased use of off-site construction. The combination of these two has an exponential impact upon improving the building process,” said Tom Hardiman, MBI Executive Director.
BIM uses three-dimensional, real-time modeling software to increase productivity in building design and construction. It can be used to demonstrate the entire building life cycle, including the construction process and facility operation. Material quantities can be easily extracted; scopes of work can be defined; systems can be isolated and shown; building parts that are in conflict can be detected, and timelines can be linked to the building model to better communicate project schedules.
MBI member companies whose representatives will speak at BIM Forum include PIVOTek and PCL Constructors. Greg Rohr, Director of Project Development and Preconstruction Services for PIVOTek, will present on “The Advancement of Modular Design and Construction.” Mark Taylor, VP, Permanent Modular Construction at PCL, will discuss “Modern Methods of Construction: Why the Full Opportunities of Off-site Construction Have Not Yet Been Realized."
MBI member StrucSoft Solutions will host a booth, where they will be showing off MWF, which automates LGS or wood framing within Revit® for modeling, coordination and manufacturing purposes. StrucSoft is also moving into engineering, with the addition of MWF Advanced Floor to its portfolio.
MBI will also have an exhibit booth, and staff representatives look forward to talking with attendees about modular trends and applications.
