Modular Wetlands Systems Introduces New WetlandMod Stormwater Treatment with Bioretention Media Mix
(PRWEB) April 21, 2016 -- Modular Wetlands Systems has recently introduced the WetlandMod to comply with evolving stormwater regulations. The WetlandMod provides a new direction in traditional bioretention and biofiltration systems and provides the same treatment concept as Modular Wetlands’ MWS Linear, but uses a bioretention mix media.
The WetlandMod is a stormwater treatment system that provides – screening, separation and biofiltration – combined with the capacity to reduce and control water volume in a more efficient way when compared to traditional downward flow bioretention systems.
The system is built upon the concept of horizontal flow biofiltration, which was first introduced by the MWS Linear in 2007. Horizontal flow works with gravity to prevent clogging, standing water and other problems associated with traditional downward flow bioretention systems. Bioretention systems have an inherent flow, the force of gravity. As stormwater runoff carries pollutants into the system, including sediments and hydrocarbons, they are deposited on top of the bioretention media where it accumulates and clogs the filter media.
The WetlandMod overcomes these challenges by utilizing pre-treatment, a horizontal flow biofiltration bed, and orifice flow control. The initial surface of the media bed in the WetlandMod is oriented on a vertical plane. This simple concept, increases surface area, reduces BMP footprint, prevents clogging and leads to an enhanced overall system with lower maintenance costs.
WetlandMod can utilize various blends to meet local stormwater bioretention media specifications. The new bioretention mix includes a 5-inch per hour san compost mix found in most LID manuals. Water flows inward from all sides of the unit to access the bioretention mix. To comply with this new media regulation, the WetlandMod has adopted a larger chamber module, pre-treatment chamber area and removed internal piping. Despite the larger size, the WetlandMod continues to be a surface saving alternative to other products on the market. WetlandMod is the first technological breakthrough to address the regulations, while minimizing footprint and costs. The footprint reduction is up to 61% over traditional bioretention systems.
“We are excited to offer a more advanced and efficient stormwater bioretention system design to our public and private sector clients in California. The WetlandMod System merges the traditional, vertical-flow biofiltration system design with our horizontal-flow and pre-treatment technology. The WetlandMod System requires less land space overall to capture and treat stormwater runoff vs. traditional bioretention systems, which translates to lower costs for our clients,” says Bio Clean’s National Sales Manager, Will Harris.
