Mona Foundation Celebrates 15 Years Of Supporting Education Across The World
Bellevue, WA (PRWEB) April 22, 2014 -- Mona Foundation supports grass roots educational initiatives and raising the status of women and girls around the world. It started in 1999 with three projects which supported 450 children. To date, it has worked with more than 30 projects in 14 countries serving tens of thousands of children and their families.
Mona Foundation works to build a better world for our children and believes that the most leveraged way to alleviate global poverty is through universal education and gender equality. Over the past 15 years, time and again it has seen that development is truly sustainable when capacity is built at the local level in individuals, communities and institutions.
“We are fortunate,” says executive director, Gaellen Quinn, “to work across many countries and cultures. It affords us an opportunity to see development from an uncommon perspective including that, no matter how materially-endowed a society is, we are still all developing. No one has yet discovered how to create a world devoid of poverty with equality for women and men and education for all. It’s a challenge for every nation.”
Mona Foundation works with educational initiatives for the long term to help them meet their community’s needs. It currently supports 17 projects in 8 countries around the world.
Mona Foundation maintains that global poverty cannot be solved by economics alone. A new inclusive model for sustainable development must be created if there is any hope of lifting people out of poverty. Best practices that govern its work include organic growth of grassroots educational initiatives, capacity building within the local community, local ownership, local solutions and service to others as in integral principle of the educational initiative.
Mona Foundation is thrilled to celebrate these 15 years with all those who have supported the work along the way. It looks forward to a year of reflection, planning for increased capacity to support more educational initiatives and celebrating with many special events.
Founded in 1999, the Mona Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports grassroots educational initiatives across the world. Its main objectives are to provide quality education to all children, to raise the status of women and girls, and to build community capacity in areas where its partner projects are located. The Mona Foundation achieves these objectives by giving 100% of designated funds, and 97% of general funds, directly to its projects impacting the lives of more than 50,000 children, women and their families. In addition, the Mona Foundation provides logistical and material resources, as well as technical training and strategic consulting for its projects. Some of the projects supported include a school for children of immigrant farm workers in California, a school in Haiti for street children and a training institute in India that teaches women practical income-generating life skills. The Foundation is based in the Seattle area. For more information about Mona Foundation and the projects it supports visit http://www.monafoundation.org.
