Monika Bardhan Realizes Lifelong Dream with Debut Poetry Collection
SEREMBAN, Malaysia (PRWEB) August 20, 2015 -- First-time author Monika Bardhan fulfills her lifelong dream with the publication of her debut book of poetry, “Catching the Waves: A Collection of Poems about Love, Life, Frienships & Everything In Between” (published by Partridge Singapore).
In February 1993, Monika’s sister, Nita, presented her with a journal on her birthday in which Monika could write her poems. Hence, “Catching the Waves” is a direct result of the gift Monika received. Within “Catching the Waves,” Monika tells many different stories in the form of poetry, including themes of love, life, friendship and everything in between. From politics to world events, to family and friendship, to sacrifice, sorrow, triumph and tragedy, this collection encompasses every aspect of human nature and the events that occur in daily life.
Monika says this book has become an all-important milestone for her. Her late maternal grandmother and her mother were her greatest influences in her life. Her maternal grandfather, Upendra Chandra Das, and her mother, Arati Bardhan are the greatest influences in her life. Her maternal grandfather, who passed away in 1979, wrote the first piece of the book, titled “The Indian Milkmaid in Malaysia.” This piece eloquently describes what the life of a milkmaid was like in Malaysia back in the late 1960s. The poem “Love and Care for Older Parents” is a poignant piece written by Monika’s mother. Monika now follows their lead and publishes “Catching the Waves.”
With a collection of literary works about different facets of life from around the world spanning more than two decades, “Catching the Waves” is a stunning debut collection of contemporary poetry that encompasses events and issues that are deeply personal, yet truly universal. With each poem uniquely capturing the full depth of emotions during times of triumph, disappointment, war, natural disaster and more, Monika hopes this anthology will change readers’ lives as much as it has transformed her own.
