Monroe College Jumpstart Program For High School Seniors Enters Into Its Tenth Year
Bronx, NY (PRWEB) September 22, 2014 -- Monroe College, a national leader in urban and international education, today announced that it is continuing its Jumpstart program for high school New York City seniors, marking the 10th year of the highly successful program, which is offered free of charge. More than 10,400 students have completed the program, with the vast majority being minorities or economically disadvantaged.
Jumpstart allows high school students in the New York metropolitan area to take college courses at Monroe, granting three college credits for each class successfully completed. Monroe requires students to adhere to the college’s attendance policy and complete the mandatory assignments and exams in order to receive an official transcript.
Jumpstart classes are offered during the fall and winter semesters in the college’s School of Business and Accounting, School of Information Technology, School of Allied Health Professions, School of Criminal Justice, School of Education, School of Hospitality Management and the Culinary Arts, as well as in its Department of English and Social Sciences. In addition to Jumpstart, Monroe College offers several other opportunities for high school students. Most recently, Monroe hosted a Culinary Boot Camp for high school seniors, providing them with the opportunity to learn the dynamics of a professional kitchen and practice their culinary skills in a college setting. Earlier this year, Monroe hosted its 5th annual Male Empowerment Event for male minority high school students, designed to inspire students to pursue an advanced degree and professional career. Monroe also hosts the America’s Best High School Chef and Pastry Competition for high school seniors nationwide who are interested in pursuing a college degree in culinary arts or baking and pastry arts.
