Monroe College’s School of Education Recognized for Excellence in Early Childhood Education
Bronx, NY (PRWEB) June 08, 2016 -- Monroe College, a national leader in educating urban and international students, today announced that its School of Education was named a “Champion for Children” by the Child Care Council of Westchester in recognition for its exceptional contributions to early childhood education.
The Child Care Council of Westchester is a non-profit organization that champions the healthy development of children, families, and the community by promoting quality early care and education. Since 2003, it has presented the Champions for Children Awards to individuals and organizations that “demonstrate an unwavering commitment to bright futures for children by creating or funding life-changing programs and initiatives.”
“The Monroe College School of Education is a Champion for Children because they, under the leadership of Dr. Anne Lillis, understand the power of early brain development and the tremendous impact of early childhood education and what it means for our collective future,” said Child Care Council of Westchester Executive Director Kathy Halas.
She noted: “We especially applaud the School’s commitment to collaboration with community-based child care programs, a partnership that strengthens the learning process for the students, brings talent to the child care centers, and bridges the gap that too often exists between theory and practice.”
The curriculum of Monroe College’s School of Education focuses on providing tomorrow’s early childhood education teachers with the knowledge, skills, and insights they need to have a positive impact on the young lives they help shape, particularly within high-needs schools. It offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program in Early Childhood Education, partnering with local school systems and other valued educational community partners to ensure Monroe students have a strong array of diversified, hands-on classroom experiences that exceed state requirements.
