Monster Energy’s Chloe Kim Wins Season’s First Snowboard Halfpipe World Cup & Teammate Jamie Anderson Wins Season’s First Slopestyle World Cup at Winter Games New Zealand
Lake Wanaka – Cardrona Alpine Resort, New Zealand (PRWEB) September 11, 2017 -- Congratulations are in order for Monster Energy athletes Chloe Kim and Jamie Anderson who took first place at the season’s first Halfpipe and Slopestyle World Cup event at the 5th Winter Games at Cardrona Alpine Resort in New Zealand. Teammates Darcy Sharpe took second in men’s Snowboard Slopestyle and Ayumu Hirano took second in men’s Snowboard Halfpipe.
Monster Energy teammate Kim took the victory this weekend in women’s Snowboard Halfpipe and Hirano took second in men’s Snowboard Halfpipe in an exciting finish to the Winter Games where 6 women and 16 men dropped into the 22-foot high superpipe with 17-year old Kim taking home the championship at her first Winter Games debut. Kim left little doubt to her dominance in the sport setting the tone for the start to a successful competition season.
“It’s my first Winter Games and it’s been awesome,” said Kim.
Kim’s podium runs consisted of a backside air, a frontside 1080 to tail grab, a Cab 720 to indy grab, an Alley-oop 5 mute grab to indy grab, and a McTwist to indy grab, nailing a winning score of 90.50 and proving her superiority in halfpipe. She continues to go bigger than anyone else and her riding style is easily the most fluid of any women’s halfpipe rider.
Earlier in the week Anderson, the two-time defending champion in the biennial event won her third peat with an 85.78 score, and bested a competitive field of the world’s best on a new course with a six-point lead from Miyabi Onitsuka who took second. As the most decorated rider in slopestyle history Anderson started the season off with a bang at the opening event showcasing her raw talent in true form by landing her first cab double underflip in competition.
“I couldn’t be more excited and grateful to land my runs and take home the win at the first contest of the season,” said Anderson.
With the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang on the horizon this was a great start to the season for Monster Energy athletes.
