Monster Energy's Chloe Kim Wins Women's Snowboard SuperPipe X Games Aspen 2015
Aspen, Colo (PRWEB) January 25, 2015 -- After taking a brutal fall in practice where she hit her face and chipped her tooth, Monster Energy’s Chloe Kim proved that, not only is she tough as nails, but she truly is the future of women’s snowboarding tonight after she clinched the gold in Women’s Snowboard Superpipe at X Games Aspen 2015. The 14-year old from California was the defending 2014 silver medalist heading into the event, and her exciting win tonight makes her both the youngest Women’s SuperPipe gold medalist of all-time, and the youngest ever to win in X Games winter-event history.
Riding against a field of seasoned Snowboard SuperPipe veterans to include Kelly Clark (the most decorated women’s snowboarder), Kim showed a prowess far beyond her years scoring a 92 to Clark’s high score of 90 to take over first place. Despite the fact that Kim only got five hits, she clearly gave the judges what they were looking for most—a combination of tech and amplitude—in a run that included a 13-foot backside air followed by the smooth, technical combo of switch backside 720 into McTwist into a massive frontside 900.
In light of Kim’s violent crash, she managed to stay focused throughout the three-run finals and put down an exciting winning run. When asked how she felt about the win, Chloe commented, “I am so amazed I was able to land all of that.” My coaches told me that I should start grabbing everything, so I made sure I grabbed everything and I just can’t believe it. It’s amazing.”
