Monster Energy's Josh Sheehan Grabs Silver in Moto X Freestyle at X Games Minneapolis 2017
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) July 15, 2017 -- Monster Energy salutes Josh Sheehan for his silver medal effort Friday night in Moto X Freestyle at X Games Minneapolis. Looking to defend his Gold from last year, Sheehan comes close with a history making run to the delight of the Minnesota crowd.
As one of the premier events of X Games, Moto X Freestyle concluded a long day of competition at the inaugural X Games Minneapolis. Under the lights of the state-of-the-art US Bank Stadium, a crowd of 32,000 action sports fans passed though the gates on Friday, many of then sticking around for the high-flying freestyles of Moto X. And, they weren’t disappointed.
Against an international field of seven other riders, Australian Sheehan set out to defend his Gold medal from last year’s event in Austin, Texas — no easy feat. With a first run score that landed him in third place Sheehan, rev’d his engine, pumped his fists and rallied into his last run in aggressive style.
Immediately distancing himself from the rest of the riders, the 31-year-old whipped a flair Indian air off the quarterpipe to get his run going. From there, he showed off one of the most technical right-side-up tricks he has with a no-handed superman before launching into a smooth 360 knack. Next was a clean double backflip of the 45-foot jump that sent the crowd into a frenzy. What happened next was a first, not only for X Games, but also for Sheehan himself.
“I hadn’t done this trick before this week… this morning actually was the first time I landed it,” he later said.
The trick he was referring to was a downward 360-seat grab, something no one has ever done before. With that and a kiss-of-death flip to finish it off, the judges bumped him up a notch with a score of 90.66, enough to secure his third silver medal of his X Games career.
“I was hoping to have done it a little bigger, but it’s a lot easier landing in a big foam pit — it’s much scarier coming in sideways towards the dirt,” he laughed afterwards.
Sheehan will forever be known as the first person to ever land a triple back flip on a dirt bike, a feat he accomplished in 2015, returns to action on Saturday for the Moto X Best Trick Final.
