Monster Energy's Max Parrot Takes Silver in Snowboard Big Air at X Games Norway 2017
HAFJELL, Norway (PRWEB) March 12, 2017 -- Monster Energy congratulates Max Parrot for taking silver in Men’s Snowboard Big Air at X Games Norway. In the final major contest of the season, Parrot once again showed his propensity for the absurd with a barrage of progressive tricks that left the crowd, judges and anyone watching at home inspired and in awe.
On the final night of competition at X Games Norway eight of the world's top snowboarders lined up to hit the big air jump. Set under the bright lights on the slopes of Hafjell Ski Resort, a crispy 26-degree temperature provided ideal conditions for the boys to show their skills. Held as a jam format in which riders attempt as many tricks as possible during a 20-minute period for a combined score of their top two, the action was intense from the start.
Dressed in his trademark black, Parrot wasted no time setting the tone for the night with his first jump where he nailed a cab triple cork 1620. As incredible as that sounds he was just getting started. With adrenaline flowing, on his next attempt he then switched directions and spun a frontside triple cork 1440. Riding away without a hand drag, bobble or sketch of any kind the Norwegian crowd went wild. Now sitting atop the pack, Parrot, instead of playing it safe, showed why he is such a threat in big air competitions.
With so many tricks to choose from it seemed fitting that he opted to end his season the way we have come to expect -- by blowing everyone's mind.
Dropping in switch, the 22-year-old from Bromont, Quebec crouched low picking up all the speed he could as he approached the 70-foot kicker. As if shot out of a cannon, he unleashed a switch frontside rotation that took a moment to understand. Spinning a full five times, Parrot unleashed a cab 1800, a trick he has only brought out rarely in competition. Riding away in apparent disbelief, a smile washed over Parrot's face as the judges were forced to calculate what just happened, and then, score accordingly.
"The cab 1800 I didn't land all day at practice," said Parrot. "I was super happy to put that one down clean."
However, in the highly subjective world of judging snowboarding the judges saw it different and in the end Parrot missed the Gold by a single point.
"You know, this is by far my best contest season I have ever had, and I'm just really happy to go home with a medal," said Parrot.
Coming off a win at Air + Style Los Angeles less than a month ago, no one has been more dominant on the Big Air stage this season than Parrot who landed on the podium in 10 of the 15 contests he entered. If you remember, Parrot also made history in January when he landed the first ever quad cork underflip on his way to Gold at X Games Aspen. As a member of the Canadian National Team Parrot is unquestionably one of the favorites for Olympic Gold as Big Air makes its debut next year in Pyeonchang, South Korea.
ESPN and TV2 will each distribute 13.5 hours of live coverage. TV2 will air the competitions live in Norway, while ESPN’s coverage will be distributed live in the U.S. on ESPN3 and as part of its World of X Games series on ABC. In addition to the content on ESPN’s U.S. media platforms, X Games Norway 2017 will be televised globally on ESPN International networks and distributed to other international media outlets and broadcasters via ESPN’s media distribution business.
