Aspen, Colo (PRWEB) January 30, 2016 -- Monster Energy’s Max Parrot earned a gold medal on the Big Air jump tonight marking a his fifth overall X Games podium and making a little history in the process.
Admittedly the most perfect jump of the competition season, riders from around the world lined up under the bright lights of Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado to push freestyle snowboarding to new heights. And to the frenzied crowd’s delight it was Parrot, who characteristically raised the bar.
“It’s the best jump of the year that’s for sure,” said Parrot. “It gives us riders the confidence to try new tricks that would otherwise be too dangerous.”
Speaking of new tricks, the Canadian rider who is widely known for his progressive riding indeed landed a Cab Triple Cork 1800, a spin never before seen in competition. That’s five full rotations in case you are counting.
“It’s a trick I learned last spring, but put on hold until tonight because I never had the jump for it,” explained Parrot.
But this wasn’t a one-jump competition. Judged in a jam format, the best two jumps were tallied to give the winning score with Parrot cranking out a stylish backside triple cork 1620 mute grab riding away from arguably the hardest stomped trick of the competition.
Parrot, who took double gold in the 2014 X Games, seems unstoppable at this point and with two major big air competitions in the near future at the Polartec Big Air at Fenway Park in Boston and X Games Oslo approaching at the end of February, Parrot’s podium season may be just getting started.
With such a remarkable feat accomplished tonight even Parrot himself has no idea where to take it from here.
“I don’t even know what the limit is now! I just like pushing the sport and seeing where it goes,” said Parrot.
