Monthly No-Cost Admission for Special Needs Families Now All Day at Stepping Stones
Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) November 17, 2015 -- For years, from 9 to 11 a.m. on the second Saturday of every month, Stepping Stones Museum for Children has offered no-cost admission for families with children who have special needs.
Beginning Saturday, Nov. 14, special needs families will be admitted to Stepping Stones at no charge for the whole day.
“The original idea was for families to come during a quiet time period for the museum. Of course, if families arrived after that time we gave them free admission. Recently, many families have told us that they drive over an hour to come and play and learn together in a safe, friendly environment,” said Robert Townes, director of community advocacy for Stepping Stones Museum for Children. “We are hoping the ‘official’ announcement of all-day free admission will encourage more families to come at their convenience and enjoy all our museum has to offer.”
Townes added, “The museum’s monthly Accessibility Day is part of our Open Arms initiative. Since the first day that we opened our doors in 2000, Stepping Stones has made a commitment to ensure that all children have access to our award-winning museum experiences. Open Arms embodies that commitment and allows, annually, more than 70,000 children and families to enjoy our museum experiences regardless of financial, language or special needs barriers.”
Available for sign-out every day, the museum has an Accessibility Toolkit, with a weighted vest, sensory toys and noise-canceling headphones made just for children.
