Montrose, CA (PRWEB) July 24, 2014 -- The San Fernando Valley Business Journal (SFVBJ) recently celebrated the “efforts and achievements of those too often unsung heroes of the corporate space” by honoring 10 Chief Financial Officers with their annual “CFO of the Year” award - Josh Schimmels, publisher of the SFVBJ.
Ten honorees out of a pool of finalists were announced on June 17th at the Warner center Marriott in Woodland Hills. Among those honorees was Julie McClure of Montrose Travel. Julie purchased Montrose Travel in 1989 along with her husband Joe McClure and sister in law, Andi Mysza. From 1989 to 2013 they built Montrose Travel from a small travel agency into a nationwide “major-player” travel management company that now has over 200 employees, 800 independent contractors, and six operating divisions located in four self-owned buildings in Montrose, CA. Today, Montrose Travel is one of the Top 40 Travel Management Companies in the US.
Julie showed her strength quickly when within the first six months of taking over the company the Gulf War started and stunted travel for all sectors of the industry. Her very conservative cash flow management skills gleaned from her hard-working North Dakota parents allowed Montrose Travel to weather that first storm with great success. Proudly funding its organic growth solely from profit and positive cash flow, Montrose Travel has never had any debt on its balance sheet and continues to remain one of the most financially healthy Travel Management companies in the United States.
While most companies try to “cut” their way out of problems, Montrose Travel has always fought to “grow” their way out. When other competitive agencies cut all extraneous spending during difficult times such as 9/11 and the economic turndown of 2008, Julie’s strong financial management skills guided Montrose Travel to aggressively quadruple its advertising spend allowing the company to grow business instead of cutting.
