Moondance Adventures Announces Four New Programs for 2014 Season
Asheville, NC (PRWEB) October 30, 2013 -- Leading teen outdoor adventure travel company Moondance Adventures, based in Asheville, NC, has announced their programs and dates for the 2014 season. The 2014 schedule includes 22 adventure travel and community service programs, four of which were added to their catalog of teen travel programs for the upcoming season. The four new active travel trips include three Community Service adventures to Maui, Hawaii; South Africa; and Vietnam + Cambodia, as well as a new Classic (wilderness-based) fly fishing adventure to Wyoming.
The Maui Community Service program, a two week adventure designed for 8th-9th graders, will allow students to participate in activities such as snorkeling, surfing and kayaking in conjunction with earning 20+ community service hours.
Students on the new South Africa Community Service program, a 17-day adventure designed for 9th-10th graders, will visit Krueger National Park, volunteer at a wildlife conservation area, surf, stand up paddleboard, snorkel and sightsee popular attractions such as the Apartheid museum in Johannesburg.
The Vietnam + Cambodia Community Service trip was created in response to the overwhelming success of the company’s Thailand adventure in 2013. The Vietnam + Cambodia trip is open to 11th-12th graders who want to gain 40 hours of community service while visiting hill tribe villages, exploring Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, sea kayaking Halong Bay and visiting the Buddhist temple, Angkor Wat.
The Wyoming Fly Fishing Classic Adventure will give 8th-10th graders the chance to fish for native trout in the rivers and lakes of the area over a two week span by way of a float trip as well as a backpacking section.
Admissions and Marketing Director Genna Harris explains that the new trips were added to meet current industry demands. "Over the past 5 or so years, our Community Service-based enrollment has increased at such a rapid pace," said Harris. "Parents want their children to see the world and do good for the world at the same time. We want to make that opportunity available for as many kids as possible in as many destinations as possible."
Moondance offers four different types of adventures for teens: Discovery Adventures focused on introductory-level adventure travel for 6th-7th graders, Classic Adventures for 8th-9th graders with an emphasis on moderately challenging multisport adventure, Leadership Adventures for 9th-12th graders which encourage student leadership in a variety of challenging and rewarding wilderness environments, and Community Service Adventures for middle and high school students designed to provide cultural awareness, global exploration and goodwill. While each Moondance program differs from the next in terms of activities and location, the underlying themes of teamwork, leadership and self-awareness are brought to fruition on these two to three week journeys.
Moondance Adventures is a travel organization offering summer programs that challenge teens to step outside their comfort zones and achieve more than they ever dreamed possible in the great outdoors. The leadership adventure program is built on the philosophy that challenge builds character and is designed to teach leadership skills amongst an exciting combination of nature, fellowship and fun.
