Moraine Valley to Host Midwest Regional Cybersecurity Competition
Palos Hills, IL (PRWEB) March 26, 2014 -- After months of preparation, the top cybersecurity teams in the Midwest are set to demonstrate their skills on Friday, March 28, 1:30-10 p.m., and Saturday, March 29, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the National Center for Systems Security and Information Assurance (CSSIA) housed at Moraine Valley Community College.
More than 300 students competed throughout February to qualify for the Midwest Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (MWCCDC). Participants include Baker College of Jackson (MI), Baldwin Wallace University (OH), Lake Superior College (MN), Milwaukee School of Engineering (WI), North Iowa Area Community College, Northern Kentucky University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (IN), Southeast Missouri State University (MO), Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and University of Louisville (KY). Students will compete for the regional championship and a berth to the national championship in San Antonio, Texas, April 25-27.
This competition simulates real world experiences. Students must maintain servers and work stations, manage data and perform day-to-day administrative tasks for a business infrastructure while fighting off attacks from professional “hackers.”
Cybersecurity jobs are some of the most secure and fastest growing in Information Technology. During the competition, there is a career fair/speed networking event. Representatives from U.S. Army INSCOM, CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, Cobalt Strike, Dell SecureWorks, Department of Homeland Security, Northern Trust, Kellogg’s Company, National Science Foundation, Navy SPAWAR, Palo Alto Networks, PPL Corporation, and United Airlines will observe, interview and offer jobs on-site. All competitors have their resumes ready and are prepared to interview.
